Moulin Rouge! The Musical to open in Melbourne in August 2021

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is coming to Australia in August 2021! The production will make the revamped Regent Theatre in Melbourne it’s home.

Based on the movie by Baz Luhrmann, the production opened on Broadway in 2019 and quickly became a revolution, receiving 14 Tony Award Nominations. 

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is set in Paris at the turn of the century and follows ambitious, lovesick writer Christian, and the dazzling actress Satine and what happens when Their lives collide at the Moulin Rouge.

The news of Moulin Rouge! The Musical’s upcoming Australian debut could not come at a more perfect time, with the shows producer Carmen Pavlovic saying “It feels like a call to arms. The story of Moulin Rouge is about show folk fighting to save their theatre and that essence of resilience and fighting for what matters has galvanised me and the whole team this year – a year of impossible challenges all round” 

Moulin Rouge the Musical has an unmissable soundtrack that celebrates over 160 years of music, including Offenbach’s 1858 composition ‘Galop Infernal’ and modern day music such as Lady Gaga and Rihanna. Of course fans can expect many of the songs from the hit film too!
